If you have a dog, you want to make sure your pet is healthy and happy. So, trips to the vet are important to make sure your dog is in the best of health.
You take your dog to the vet when you suspect that he is not feeling well and for checkups and exams. But veterinarians can provide a range of services for your pet that you may not be aware of. Naturally, services will vary from one veterinary clinic to the next, but here is a short list of the different services these places can offer.
- Exams and vaccinations.
These are the services that most people would expect a veterinarian to provide. Most vets recommend that dogs be examined at least once a year every six months for older animals). When you take your pet in for an exam, you can also discuss with the vet any other questions or concerns you have, as well as issues related to the animal’s teeth, exercise and diet.
Vets also provide vaccinations, and your vet will be happy to discuss with you what vaccinations your pet should receive.
- Behavior advice.
If your dog has behavior issues, such as obedience problems, your vet can help you with this as well. He or she can talk with you about what may be the cause of the behavior problem, and advise if medication may be necessary. If the issue is not a serious one, the vet may be able to recommend a trainer who can work with your dog using positive reinforcement.
- Dental services.
This is another service that your vet can provide. Many veterinary clinics offer a broad range of dental care. Also, you should brush your dog’s teeth at least three times a week.
4. Grooming.
Many veterinarian clinics also offer this service. The staff there will clip your pet’s nails, trim his hair, and also bathe the animal. If the clinic does not offer the service, your vet can probably recommend someone.
5. Training.
Some veterinarians also offer dog training services. And again, if they do not, the clinic can probably recommend a good trainer for your dog.
- Boarding.
This is another common service that veterinary clinics provide. If you are going on a trip, you can board your pet at a clinic where he or she will receive daily exercise and feeding, along with the companionship of other animals.
If your vet doesn’t offer boarding services, check us out here at Barney’s Ranch. We offer day- and overnight-boarding services and your dog will be able to run around our 4,000-square-foot outdoor dog run to his heart’s content. Give us a call at (469) 273-1661 for more information.
